Our homes are more than just a dwelling, they are where we rest, recharge, enjoy hobbies, connect with our families and ourselves. Each room in a home has a function. Kitchen = prepare meals. Living room = relax. Bathroom = shower. Dining room = eat. Bedroom = sleep. You get the picture! Some rooms can be multi-functional, like the kitchen may become a place to gather, talk, do homework. The living room can be where game night happens and hobbies are appreciated. But what about the bedroom? How much of that space are we utilizing as a multifunctional space? The bedroom serves as a place of privacy from the remaining rooms in the home that are used by everyone in the family. But are we really using the bedroom to its full potential? Especially for parents and hard workers.
The Master Bedroom (often known now as the Primary Bedroom) is typically the largest and there’s a reason for that, it is where the heads of the household reside, the ones with the most at stake, and it should be your sanctuary! So many people neglect this room and its potential. Very likely, the reason is that they don’t know how to make it special. Bella Home Interiors specializes in Master Bedrooms and transforming them into beautiful, restful and invigorating spaces. A true recharge can be found in ways other than sleep in the Master and we’re going to give you some tips on how!
Before we get into the “how to”, let’s talk about the “why” first. A master bedroom as a sanctuary is crucial for mental and physical well-being, providing a private, peaceful retreat to de-stress, recharge, and escape daily demands; fostering better sleep, deeper connections with a partner, and a space to be your authentic self, ultimately boosting life balance and preparing you to face the world refreshed. Let this motivate you!
Now we’re inspired and ready to design our sanctuary. There’s a few key elements to accomplish this:
Design for Calm - select textures and colors that reflect a peaceful and serene environment.
Organic textures and forms
Matte finishes are less stimulating than glossy surfaces
Think earthy greens, sandy neutrals, soft blues and warm grays
Botanical patterns and natural woods with minimal treatments to show natural grains and imperfections
Privacy and Boundaries - your space should be devoid of clutter, work, distractions
To declutter for a peaceful space, start small with a single drawer or surface, use methods like the "4-Box Method" (Keep, Donate, Trash, Relocate), and create routines like the "one-in, one-out rule" and daily five-minute tidy-ups to maintain calm, focusing on clearing surfaces and giving everything a designated "home" to reduce visual stress and improve focus.
If by chance, you have a work space in your bedroom, designate it in its own zone and try to use barriers such as curtains or room dividers to keep it separated from the remainder of the bedroom. Be sure to remove all work related items (i.e. laptops, tablets, planners, papers) from any surfaces in the room, if possible.
Reduce disruptions with the use of sound machines, stylish acoustical panels, window treatments that provide privacy and light control as well as sound absorption; and be sure the temperature is regulated to maintain a comfortable climate. Perhaps, add some aromatherapy to enhance the peaceful environment
Comfort and Quality - invest in your comfort and peace and you’re investing in yourself
Since you spend a third of your life sleeping, a supportive, high-quality mattress is essential for proper spinal alignment and improved sleep quality. Pair it with soft, quality sheets (e.g., Egyptian cotton, linen), a plush duvet insert, and supportive pillows tailored to your sleep position for a truly luxurious feel
Reduce the use of harsh overhead lighting and opt for a combination of ambient and task lighting, such as dimmable bedside lamps, sconces, or floor lamps, to create a warm and soothing ambiance
Soft cozy textiles and a corner with a plush lounge chair will go a long way
Bring in personal touches. Add meaningful artwork or framed photos of loved ones to make the space feel uniquely yours and evoke positive emotions
Voila! You have your very own special getaway space. You’re ready to relax! However, we all have busy schedules as it is and some of us just don’t have the time or bandwidth to create our own sanctuary. That’s when you bring yourself the peace before the peace and let Bella Home Interiors take this off your hands. Schedule your consultation and let us create a perfect haven for you.
